Without a NIE number (identity number for foreigners), it is not possible for foreigners to buy property in Spain. Before the Corona pandemic, there were many ways to apply for a NIE number. Currently, the only recommended and practical way is to apply for the NIE at the Spanish consulate in your country of residence.

Appointments with the consulate can be made directly online. Please note that the current waiting time for an appointment is approx. 2 – 3 months (as at 01-2021). So if you want to buy a property on the most beautiful island in the world (Corona has not changed this fact), you would be well advised to apply for your NIE as soon as possible.
