History Of The Almond Trees In Mallorca
The almond and all the products made from it are one of Mallorca’s most important export products today. Almond trees have existed in Mallorca since around the 10th century, but not in the large numbers we find today.
When the Mallorcan vineyards were hit by the phylloxera plague in the 19th century and most of them were destroyed, many of Mallorca’s farmers looked for an alternative. This led to a large part of the vineyards having to give way and almond plantations taking their place.
