Son Serra de Marina

The small, beautiful coastal village of Son Serra de Marina (formerly a fishing village) is located in the bay of Alcudia on the northeast coast of Mallorca. Its between the towns of Can Picafort and Artà and belongs to the municipality of Santa Margalida.

Perfect for nature lovers, sports enthusiasts and those seeking peace and quiet, but also very suitable for families.

The village is arranged in a chessboard pattern and was built in the 1960s on a part of the former Son Serra country estate. At that time, the sellers of the waterfront properties stipulated in the purchase contracts that men and women were only allowed to bathe separately. But this is of course no longer the case today. The village still consists exclusively of one- and two-storey buildings and has never lost its somewhat conservative and original charm.

There are no hotels in Son Serra de Marina, but there are tourist flats in small blocks and chalets and villas. Many locals have a second home here.

Beach

The beautiful sandy beach Platja de Son Serra de Marina is about 400m long and was partly created by man due to storms and currents. As the beach degrades softly, it is also very suitable for families with children. Furthermore, there is a small bar and free parking. You can’t rent sunbeds and parasols, but the beach is not as crowded as many others. There are three other small beaches nearby: Son Real, Sa Canova and Platja de s’Home Mort.

Sports

There are varied routes for cyclists and mountain bikers, both along the coast and inland. The beaches of Son Serra de Marina are suitable for plenty of water sports: swimming, snorkelling, all kinds of surfing, diving, and canoeing. Water sports fans will have a lot of fun.

But you can also go hiking or just take a walk and enjoy nature, for example in the Son Real nature reserve, which is home to some ancient burial sites as well as numerous interesting animal species.

Gastronomy And Shopping

Son Serra de Marina isn’t the best place for a shopping trip as there are only a few small shops and a supermarket. There are also no discos or trendy bars here. But there are a few restaurants and cosy bars where you can hang out.

Sights

Talaiot de sa Cova de sa Nineta
The prehistoric tower Talaiot de sa Cova de sa Nineta is located directly on the road of the same name. Its only a few kilometres northwest of the confluence. The road leads directly to the sea and ends at the port of Son Serra de Marina.

The Talaiot was built on a square ground plan and the lower part is preserved. It was built using the Cyclopean technique. It is attributed to the Bronze Age Talaiot culture that shaped Mallorca from 1300 to 123 BC.
