Santa Margalida – Authentic Village In The Heart Of Mallorca

Santa Margalida is a harmonious municipality in the north-east of the island of Mallorca. In addition to the main village of Santa Margalida, located inland, the two villages of Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina also belong to the municipality. The latter are both located directly on the sea at the Bay of Alcudia.

There are many legends and myths about the place and the image of Saint Margarita. These finally gave the municipality its name.

Agriculture and village ambience

Santa Margalida is characterised above all by its lush agriculture. Cereals are grown in the fields, but olive, almond and carob trees can also be found here.

The market in this village takes place every Tuesday and Saturday morning in the centre on the Placa de la Vila. Leather goods, fruit, vegetables, Mallorcan specialities, textiles and much more are on sale at the various market stalls. Stroll past the various stalls and take the time to explore the surrounding area on foot. This way you can discover the classic and authentic Santa Margalida. Enjoy the beautiful atmosphere and be fascinated by the traditionally built charismatic buildings of the town.

The most famous building in the town is the parish church of Santa Margalida. This was built in 1232 and offers its visitors a fantastic panoramic view due to its slightly elevated position.

Peace and tranquillity

As mass tourism has not yet taken hold in this dreamy place, there are no hotels here. However, there are holiday homes and fincas that offer overnight accommodation. The village offers everything you need for daily life – bars, restaurants and shops can be found in the centre of the village.

Those seeking peace and quiet will feel welcome in Santa Margalida – lots of nature, fresh air and the pace of everyday life feels slowed down.

In the surroundings

In Can Picafort you can find the nature reserve s’Albufera, which covers about 800 hectares. Here, visitors can observe many different species of birds. But also, fish and a variety of reptiles live in this biotope.
